100th ANNIVERSARY CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION

As the100-year anniversary of the Association approaches, plans are being made to celebrate the accomplishments of our members. A former Floridian, Joyce Miles, will be presenting the life and times of Ellen Richards as she fought for families in the early 20th Century. You may even want to participate in the quilt challenge. The kick-off is in Milwaukee in 2008 and the Centennial Celebration will culminate in Knoxville in 2009.

If you were a member of AAFCS (AHEA) in 1959 and attended the 50-year anniversary conference in Milwaukee, Eleanor Cavanaugh wants to know! Even if you attended the conference in 1984 (75th anniversary), please contact Eleanor Cavanah at 904-641-6924 or ccavan@yahoo.com. Eleanor will be coordinating this national effort to reunite and recognize members who were there for the 50th and the 75th. Contact her if you were there!!

SIZING UP AMERICA – A PUBLIC POLICY FORUM ON OBESITY

Sixty-five percent of U.S. adults are either overweight or obese (CDC). Among children, 15% are overweight (Hedley). Addressing this issue presents serious and challenging public policy questions. With all the negative effects of being overweight or obese, is there hope that we can turn this trend around? What can we, as concerned citizens, do personally, as a community, and as a nation, to fight this debilitating epidemic? AAFCS has partnered with the National Information Forum, Inc. and the Charles Kettering Foundation to present obesity forums throughout the nation. If your group is interested in participating in a public policy forum on the issue of obesity, contact Rita Burns at 954-785-4828 or at johnjrburns@bellsouth.net.

PROJECT IDENTIFY AND RECOGNIZE
