Marie T. Mill Scholarship Awarded

On June 22, 2010, the Marie T. Mill Scholarship was award to Nicole McDonald, the winning applicant for this nursing scholarship fund.  The award was presented during the Installation of the 2010-2011 Officers, at Cal Poly Pomona Kellogg West Conference Center.

In her application, Nicole wrote about her passion for nursing.  "Overall, nursing offers the opportunity for one to be their best to someone in their weakest moment.  Therefore my reason for wanting to become a nurse is based on the strong desire to take care of those who are sick and incapable of taking care of themselves.  My ultimate career goal is to become an instructor and teach future nurses."

Congratulations, Nicole!

Board 2010
Dear Suzette,

Happy summer to you!  As the weather heats up, our energies for service heat up as well!  We thank the outgoing Board for their accomplishments of leadership, and we congratulate the newly elected officers!

As we make our plans and set our goals, let's ponder this:

"What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals."  Zig Ziglar

Warmly,
Suzette

2010-2011 Officers Installed

On June 22, 2010, the 2010-2011 Officers of SI Pomona Claremont were installed.  Held at the Cal Poly Pomona Kellogg West Conference Center, the event had a warm and enthusiastic feel, guided by the new theme "Changing the Lives of Women - One Smile at a Time."

Friends and family of club members also attended to share in the celebration.  Consistent with the theme, a very creative Gayle Claiborne welcomed each new officer with a symbolic gift and admonition (a toothbrush to make sure the "face" of our club had a shiny white welcoming smile,  and some dental floss to make sure that no hidden dirt or bacteria would be left behind to cause decay within our club.)

As part of the agenda, Past President Renee Webb read off all of the accomplishments made during the last term, which affirmed that though SI Pomona Claremont is small in numbers, the service contributions to the community have been great in impact!

Another highlight was the special present that was given to New President Liz Andrews, (in addition to the lovely gifts from the club).  A song of support, written by Nelda Grant, which was sung by the club members (to the tune of "Bicycle Built for Two").

More celebrations that came that evening were the presentation of the Marie T. Mills Scholarship to Nicole McDonald, and the inductions of two new members into the club, Erika Hernandez and Ana Luevano.

The evening ended on a high note, with such a feeling of sisterhood and energy, as we closed with the Soroptimist Pledge.

TOILETRY KITS ASSEMBLED FOR PROTOTYPE WOMEN

kitsOn June 2, 2010, after our program meeting, 12 club members and guests gave overtime to packing toiletries in individual hygiene kits the Prototype Women!  The kits included items such as toothbrushes and other dental care items, combs, shampoo and conditioners, lotions, and even some make-up items.  107 packets were assembled, and given to the organization.  A worker at Protype remarked that she remembered "when she first came and received one of our health kits and how good it was to have a little something of her own".

And thanks to the generosity of Myra, we had a wonderful dinner!
